Content of Modules

Click on the different modules for a full description of each course. All courses consist of an e-learning course that must be completed prior to the workshop. The training courses are suitable for all employees that are involved in projects.

 

Level 1 - 5 ECTS credits

Completing "Essential Project Management" and "Applied Project Management and Control" with a final exam will give you 5 university credits. The web based exam consists of 50 questions which should be completed within 50 minutes. You get information about the exam when you are enrolled.

Module A - Essential Project Management

This module gives participants a unique insight into project management and broad knowledge of the field. The module covers all knowledge areas of project management, and gives participants what they need to plan and execute projects in a professional manner.

Practical and interactive exercises give the participant an insight into recognised methods and tools that are used in running successful projects.

 

Target group

This module is aimed at project managers, project team members and functional managers who work with projects.

Objectives

After completing the module, the participant should:

  • Be familiar with the main areas and processes involved in the field of project management
  • Have gained an insight into the main methods and tools used for managing projects from feasibility through to completion.

Content

The module covers the following areas:

  • Projects and terminology
  • Project management – the main knowledge areas
  • Project phases, processes and decision-making milestones
  • Business objectives and project objectives
  • Organisation, roles and responsibilities, interplay with the functional organisation
  • Project management throughout all phases of the project – from feasibility to completion
  • Risk management and contracts
  • Team work
  • Quality and project management

E-learning followed by a 1-day classroom training.

Module B - Applied Project Management and Control

This practical module gives participants a good understanding of methods and techniques used for planning, monitoring and controlling projects.

Via a practical approach and interactive exercises, participants learn best practices for setting project goals, establishing the project plan, preparing for decision-making milestones and management information, managing ”the triple constraints”, change management, and project closure.

 

Target group

This module is aimed at project managers, project team members and functional managers who work with projects.

Objectives

After completing the module, the participant should:

  • Have acquired knowledge about how projects are planned and executed out in practice
  • Have gained knowledge about managing stakeholder expectations
  • Have gained knowledge about methods and techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling the project

Content

The module covers the following areas:

  • Methods and techniques for establishing a project plan; WBS (work breakdown structure), schedule and cost estimate
  • Methods and techniques for progress monitoring and controlling - using the earned value technique
  • Managing deviations and changes
  • The project life cycle, with phases and decision milestones
  • Balancing project objectives – managing stakeholder expectations
  • Prognoses and plan revisions

Accomplishment

E-learning course followed by a 1-day classroom training.

Exam - 5 ECTS credits (Level 1)

This programme earns ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits invested by SKEMA Business School. The whole programme can earn you a total of 30 ECTS. On completion of the two first modules in the program you will be invited to sit an online multiple choice exam. You will receive your exam transcripts from SKEMA after the results have been validated.

Prerequisities

All participants must have completed the following e-learning courses with workshops;

  • Essential Project Management
  • Applied Project Management and Control in FMC Technologies

Accomplishment

The examination is online and consists of 50 multiple choice questions to be answered within 50 minutes. You will receive an e-mail with practical information after you enroll. The processing of the examination papers may take approximately 4 months. However, you will receive your grade in an e-mail from our Exam Department about 6 weeks after completing the exam. The certificate will be sent to your postal address as soon as it has been validated.

Level 2 - 15 ECTS credits

Completing the 4 modules on level 2 with a final exam will give you 15 additional university credits. The web based exam consists of 70 questions which should be completed within 90 minutes. The exam is similar to the one on level 1, and when you have done all modules you will get information about the practical exam details.

Module C - Leadership and Communication

This course provides an insight into how an open and goal-oriented communication system strengthens your ability to create a motivated team and influence others to go in a direction you want them to go in.

Through a combination of theory and active training you will learn about how to make team members more engaged and solve problematic communication issues in an appropriate way.

 

Target group

This module is intended for project managers, line managers and leaders in project-intensive organisations.

Objectives

After completing this module the participant will have:

  • Have been versed in leadership methods and tools for use in every day team work.
  • Have had practical training and got an insight into what works best when communicating with external partners, leaders, project team members and other colleagues.
  • Have knowledge of how to motivate project workers, co-workers and themselves.

Content

The module addresses the following areas:

  • What characterises an effective and motivational leader
  • How to convert a project team from being focused on problems to being focused on solutions
  • What characterises good communication
  • How to give and receive constructive feedback
  • How to articulate your own requirements effectively
  • How to be a better listener
  • How to motivate through animating visions

Accomplishment

The module consists of a combination of eLearning and 3 days classroom training.

Training scope

The eLearning part comprises 6 lessons.

The time spent on the e-learning course may vary depending on project knowledge and experience. Experience shows that the execution time is between 10 and 20 hours. If you take the e-learning course as part of a study program including exams, you will spend more time on preparation and specialization in recommended supporting literature.

Module E - Contract Management in Project

One of the main reasons why far too many projects get behind schedule is that contracts are managed poorly. Contract management involves using contracts as a management tool throughout the course of the project. When doing this, it is crucial comparatively to assess delivery descriptions, budgets, progress plans and general contract elements. This holistic approach will put you in control of your project.

Participants learn about good practice in contract management – from contract strategy to final deliveries – via a practical approach and interactive exercises.

 

Target group

This module is intended for project managers, project team members, people in charge of contracts and supplier follow-up, and line managers who work with contracts.

Objectives

After completing the module, the participant should:

  • Understand the crucial role that contracts play in the project’s achieving good results
  • Be able to use contracts as an effective management tool, and understand how change affects contracts
  • Be familiar with the key phases of the contract process
  • Be familiar with important contract articles and the impact they have on project execution

Module I - Project Risk Management

Professional risk management is one of the most crucial success factors in any project. This module deals with methods, processes and techniques for the management of project risks; both opportunities and threats.

Aided by a practical approach and interactive exercises, participants learn about all the steps involved in the risk management process. This includes how risks are identified, analyzed, communicated and how responses are planned and followed up.

This module is aimed at project managers, project team members and functional managers who work with projects.

Objectives

After completing the module, the participant should:

Module J - Professional Project Execution

This course focuses on project success factors and on common project management challenges that affects the project outcome, and it suggests how project management should be applied to optimize project performance and meet objectives.

In project-oriented companies the aggregate result of projects becomes the company’s bottom line. The delivery of profitable projects balanced with winning the next projects are the cornerstone for all project-oriented companies. However, not all projects succeed. And on completion of most projects we have a long list of things that went wrong or could have been managed better. This course uses important and common lessons learned and shows you how to achieve project success.

Examination 15 ECTS credits (Level 2)

Completing the 4 modules on level 2 with a final exam will give you 15 additional university credits. The web based exam consists of 70 questions which should be completed within 90 minutes. The exam is similar to the one on level 1, and when you have done all modules you will get information about the practical details.

The exam is web based, consisting of 70 questions which should be completed within 90 minutes. You will receive an e-mail with practical information after you enroll. The processing of the examination papers may take approximately 4 months. However, you will receive your grade in an e-mail from our Exam Department about 6 weeks after completing the exam. The certificate will be sent to your postal address as soon as it has been validated.

Level 3 - 10 ECTS credits

This is the final exam that will give you an additional 10 ECTS and altogether 30 ECTS. The main objective with this exam is to prove that you are able to apply your project management knowledge in practice. This is a case-based exam, which you have 2 weeks to complete. The exam should be taken within 1 year after completing the final module and the Level 2 exam. On completion you will get the “Advanced Certificate in Project Management” and 30 ECTS. The university credits can be used if you want to pursue an academic degree.

Advanced Certificate in Project Management (Level 3)

This is the final exam that will give you an additional 10 ECTS and altogether 30 ECTS. This exam replaces the previous project assignment and the main objective with this exam is to prove that you are able to apply your project management knowledge in practice. This is a case-based exam, which you have 2 weeks to complete. The exam should be taken within 1 year after completing the final module and the Level 2 exam. On completion you will get the “Advanced Certificate in Project Management” and 30 ECTS. The university credits can be used if you want to pursue an academic degree.
